FC Barcelona ended their 2023-24 season with their last league game against Sevilla last night, and despite their position in the table already determined, this match was important for Barcelona fans as this was the last game overseen by Xavi as the Barcelona head coach.

As a result, all eyes were on the Catalan team’s head coach throughout the night, and Xavi also let his feelings known a bit in the press conference after the match.

On the other hand, Sevilla’s head coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, also oversaw his last press conference as the Sevilla trainer, bidding farewell to his club. According to Diario AS, he also made some interesting comments about Barcelona during this presser.

Talking about Xavi, the Sevilla coach told the reporters that he holds him in very high regard as a manager, and also identified the actual problem that caused Barcelona to take such a drastic measure with Xavi:

“I value Xavi a lot as a coach; I appreciate the league he won last year. I admired him as a footballer, just like all of you. He seems like an honest guy who says what he thinks. He has faced a transitional period, and I’ve told him. Barcelona has a problem, and it’s not Xavi, it’s Real Madrid.”

While some Barcelona fans and officials might not like hearing from an outsider like Quique Flores that Barcelona’s actual problem is Real Madrid, there is no doubt a lot of truth in his statement.

The way the Merengues are shaping their team for the next season, it would take a herculean effort from the Catalans to get their hands on the league title. Xavi, during his time at the club, made a lot of improvements in the team, but the club might be looking for even more as they face a very difficult season ahead.
