This recent summer transfer window was a great opportunity for FC Barcelona to evaluate what signings to make. Initially, there were hopes that the club would finally be able to strengthen the squad properly. However, as time went on, the chances of Barcelona signing new players began to decline.

One of the players that most fans wanted to see at the club this season was Athletic Club star Nico Williams. A fan-favorite for Barcelona following the European Championship, due to his ever-charismatic friendship and partnership with Lamine Yamal, the club was reportedly following that operation as their biggest priority.

Ultimately, Nico Williams did not arrive and Barcelona instead opted to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. Fortunately for the Catalan giants, Olmo’s arrival has turned out to be a great decision and the player has already had a positive impact in the games that he has played and on his teammates as well.

However, in a recent interview with ‘El Hormiguero’, Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was the invited guest and he was asked to talk about several topics. One of those topics, as highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, was the potential arrival of Nico Williams at Barcelona in the future and how the 17-year-old wonderkid would feel if he joined the team, to which he replied:

“I’d love to play every week with Nico Williams as part of my squad. He’s my good friend.”

However, beyond stating that he would love to play with the Athletic Club star and his Spanish teammate, Yamal also confessed that he did not know if the 22-year-old La Liga winger would be joining Barcelona next season either: “I don’t know if he will join Barça next season, it’s up to Nico.”

Ultimately, it seems that the club still has not given up on signing him in the future entirely. While the player did decide to stay at Athletic Club this season, his future beyond this campaign is still open and a move to Barça in the future may still be on the table.

His contributions for Spain during the Euros, alongside those of Lamine Yamal, helped his country conquer the tournament itself. Within Barcelona, there continues to be a belief that pairing him up with his 17-year-old compatriot would be just as beneficial for the club as well heading into the future.
