FC Barcelona got another important victory last night as they emerged victorious in the latest Barcelona derby against RCD Espanyol. With this win, the Catalans took their lead over their main title rivals, Real Madrid, to 9 points, as the match between Real Madrid and Valencia was postponed due to the DANA floods.
As has been the case since the start of the season, the midfielder Pedri once again put in a very good performance in this game, as he led the Barcelona midfield.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to the press after the game, and highlighted how important this match was: “We were just talking about it before it started; it was a very important match. Fans always love a derby.”
The Canarian praised the intensity shown by the team, both in this game specifically and throughout this season in general:
“Above all, it’s the intensity we bring to our games. Opposing teams feel it in the second half. The defensive line is doing an outstanding job. And the players we have up front, they just make things happen. They’re in great form, and things are really working for them.”
Pedri has had to overcome some serious injuries over the last few years, and he took this opportunity to highlight how difficult it is for a footballer to go through such periods:
“Well, above all, there’s a lot of work that goes unseen. There’s always a lot of criticism that comes your way, and that hurts. I think I’ve improved a bit in everything to try to maintain that continuity, and I’m happy to be enjoying the game with the ball.”
The midfielder now looks to be at his 100%, and the fans will be hoping he can remain fit throughout the season, keeping in view the important role he plays in this team.
