FC Barcelona have been facing severe economic problems for the last few years, and these economic problems have forced the club to chart a voyage with very limited maneuvering space when buying players from the market.
However, these circumstances have not daunted the club officials, who were able to have a very successful summer transfer window. The club incorporated some of the best players in the world like Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix, while spending very low amounts on them.
Tebas on Barcelona’s summer business
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the La Liga President, who is not a very popular figure in Barcelona because of his constant criticisms and strict handling of financial matters related to the club, recently spoke at an event in Italy in which he explained how Barcelona were able to make these signings in the summer:
“They only spent three million… There are rules that require selling before signing: for every 100 you save, you can spend 40. Barcelona cannot lose its competitiveness and must operate within these rules in order to make signings.”
Tebas criticises major European clubs
Tebas went on to describe his and his teams’ efforts to make La Liga more sustainable and explain how the Spanish league is different from other leagues in the financial aspect. He criticized other big clubs across Europe, especially Bayern, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Italian clubs, and also PSG as the “champion in wasting money.”
However, his comments on Barcelona can be taken as praise by the club officials, as it is not frequent to hear good words about the Catalan club from Tebas. Still, these officials cannot rest on these laurels, and will have to work hard once again in the coming months to complete their objectives for the winter window, including the incorporation of Vitor Roque into the squad.
