For the last few years, FC Barcelona have been fighting battles on different fronts. Their struggles to win titles have been there to see for everyone, but the sporting struggles are only one side of the troubles that the club is currently facing.

Another major issue that the Catalan club has been facing is related to its conflicts with the top footballing authorities. Barcelona’s continued involvement with the ESL has made it one of the favorite targets for top officials at organizations like UEFA, and the club is also regularly on the receiving end of criticism from La Liga.

The La Liga President, Javier Tebas, has been a vocal critic of the way the club has been run for the last few years and has never shied away from slandering the club, mainly for its financial mismanagement.

The current Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, and Tebas have frequently engaged in verbal spats in these few years, and tension between the two individuals is clearly visible.

Emerging signs indicate that the animosity between these individuals and organizations is going to continue as Javier Tebas is likely to remain in a powerful position in Spanish football for the coming years as well.

According to SPORT, Tebas has presented his resignation as the Head of La Liga today, with a view to bringing forward the electoral process that is scheduled for 2024. In this process, Tebas will once again present himself to run for the head of the clubs’ employers’ association for a fourth time and is not expected to face any opposition.

The decision to resign now is a strategic action by Tebas, who believes holding the elections before the end of the year would be better for him. This will help avoid overlapping the elections for La Liga Presidency with those for the election for the Presidency of RFEF.
