FC Barcelona have a number of players in their current squad whose contracts are set to expire in the near future and the club needs to find a way to tie them down to new deals. Deco & co. will surely be working in the background to ensure this happens.

The likes of Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Gavi are all due a new contract in the near future. All four players see their contracts expire in 2026 which is less than 20 months away and the club will want to tie them down to new, long-term deals.

Three out of the four names on the list are club captains. Araujo recently seemed to make his intentions clear by claiming that he would like to stay at Barcelona for many more years. That seemed like a clear, ‘come, get me call’ to the board to offer him a new deal.

Now, as quoted by SPORT, club president Joan Laporta has explained the plans of the club to renew the contracts of Frenkie, Pedri, Gavi and Araujo. He hinted that the club had tabled proposals for three out of the four names on the list.

Laporta also seemed to hint that although a proposal hasn’t been tabled to Gavi yet, it is only a matter of time, and he will have it soon. The president revealed that the focus is on these four players due to the length remaining on their current contract.

The president also spoke on the situation of players like Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, revealing that their renewals can wait due to having time on their current contracts. Laporta also confirmed an automatic extension triggering clause in the Pole’s contract. He said:

“If he plays 50% he has a contract renewal and we will be delighted because he is performing very well. We will be fair with the players, we always have been.”

Finally, Laporta mentioned that players like Lamine Yamal are calm about their renewal due to knowing how much the club values them. The Spanish teenager will turn 18 next year after which he can sign a new, long-term deal with the club.

Laporta’s words seem to hint that the club has the renewals of key Barcelona players in control. However, one must take the president’s words with a pinch of salt as you can never say for sure how these negotiations pan out. Only time will tell if the club manages to get all the aforementioned players to sign a new deal at the club.
