FC Barcelona managed to emerge victorious over Athletic Bilbao in their recent league clash. A tense affair from start to finish, it was ultimately only one goal that separated the two sides. More interestingly, however, it is the source of that goal that makes heads turn.
Barcelona arrived into this game knowing they had to take all three points. By the final whistle, that is what they did exactly. Yet, despite all the stars on the fields battling it out from minute one, it ended up being a particular La Masia product coming on from the bench who would end up being the difference maker.
Teenage kick
After coming on near the 79th minute, it took 17-year-old Marc Guiu less than a minute to score on his debut. 23 seconds is the exact time it took Guiu to score and ensure that Barcelona took away all the spoils from this game.
Cancelo’s request
Rather humorously, as highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, there was a post-match request of sorts that has been going viral. Following his great debut, the player was approached by Barcelona teammate Joao Cancelo, who made an interesting request:
“You have to pay for a dinner. You have to pay for a dinner at McDonald’s.”
The Portuguese international himself was no slouch during the game. While he was offensively a bit restricted, he ensured that his defensive contributions did not lack as he was tasked with constantly being on Nico Williams’s tail.
With this goal, Marc Guiu has ensured Barcelona remains only one point behind Real Madrid now. El Clasico is now the next league game for Barça, and the Catalan giants will be presented with the golden opportunity of having their destiny in their own hands.
A victory over Los Blancos would enable Barcelona to take a lead over their eternal rivals without worrying about their other results for once.
