As this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony approaches, the debate about who deserves to win this award continues to heat up. This year’s Ballon d’Or is particularly difficult to predict, as several players had a very good 2026-27 seasons and 2026 World Cup campaigns, but none of them has a perfect case for the award. As far as FC Barcelona are concerned, Lamine Yamal is the player in their team most likely to land this award.
He not only starred for Barcelona and helped his club win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles, but also won the World Cup with Spain. Following these achievements, he has a very strong case for the biggest individual award in world football. In fact, several people associated with the Blaugrana club have already asked for the Ballon d’Or to be given to the young forward, including president Joan Laporta.
In addition to these people directly associated with Barcelona, another individual who backed Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or was his agent, Jorge Mendes. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Portuguese agent attended a dinner with Joan Laporta and Alejandro Echevarria, and while leaving the restaurant, expressed his opinion on the Ballon d’Or:
“The Ballon d’Or is for Lamine Yamal; he is the one who deserves it the most… He is the best in the world by far, by a long way, and you all know it.”
There is no doubt that Lamine Yamal had a very good last year, and is deservedly being considered as a favorite for the Ballon d’Or. However, he will be facing very stiff competition from other players like Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Lionel Messi for this year’s award. For now, one can only wait to see who will get this award, and whether Yamal will be able to bring the biggest individual award in football back to Barcelona.
