Joshua Kimmich will be one of the players who will have most of the spotlight focused upon him as his Bayern Munich side takes on FC Barcelona in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League.
He is one of the most important players and one of the captains of the Bavarian team, but his links with the Blaugrana club over the last year will also make him one of the players to keep an eye on in this game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the midfielder was the Bayern player who addressed the press ahead of this match, and one of the most memorable parts of this presser came about when he was asked about his links with Barcelona.
The midfielder did not rule out a future move to the Catalan club, as he responded: “In football, one should never make the mistake of ruling out possibilities. Now, to answer directly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment, but in football, you should never rule anything out.”
Kimmich also highlighted several reasons why he believed this upcoming game between the two European giants will be special:
“It’s definitely strange to play against him [ Hansi Flick ]. It’s a special moment, always special to play against Barça. In recent years, we’ve faced them quite a few times. It will be interesting to reunite with Hansi, and we’re looking forward to it.”
“As I just said, playing against Barça is always something very special. I’ve been linked to Barça a few times, but it’s not more special because of that. It’s special because it’s a very important club with a rich and successful tradition, and with a very good team.”
Further commenting on Barcelona, he revealed how the Catalan club has had a significant influence on him: “Barça made a mark on me, and Spain as well. They won three major tournaments in a row, and especially Xavi Hernández—when I was young, he was my idol. I always loved watching his games.”
“Then Pep Guardiola, with the tiki-taka, it was like a small revolution, the way they managed to dominate their opponents. To this day, I think it remains an example to follow for many clubs.”
Kimmich has never hidden his admiration for Barcelona, and this has only raised the hopes of Cules of seeing him don their colors. But for now, Kimmich will be fully focused on this upcoming tie, and we will have to wait to see if he ever dons the Blaugrana colors.
