Barcelona players training at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper

The pre-season tour of the USA has ended and FC Barcelona will now be looking forward to the serious business ahead. The club also has to face Tottenham Hotspurs in the Joan Gamper Trophy before they kick their La Liga campaign off.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club has given permission to its squad members to take days off till the coming Sunday. However, there are some players who have already started training to improve their fitness and physical conditions.

One such player is the youngster Gavi, who has been an integral part of Xavi’s squad. Despite the confidence of Xavi in the youngster, Gavi was unable to play in any of the matches in the USA.

Firstly, he suffered from a gastroenteritis illness, and later he also had back pain, because of which Xavi opted not to risk him. Gavi is working to recover from these problems and get into the season in the best physical shape.

Another player who is training at Cuitat Esportiva Joan Gamper is Andreas Christensen. The center-back was a mainstay in Barcelona defense last season, and contributed significantly to the Catalan’s triumph of La Liga.

The Dane suffered a knock during the El Classico in Dallas, which affected his left ankle. He is also training to get into shape for the start of the season.

Two youngsters, Mikayil Faye, and Ander Astralaga, are also training despite the days off, and will be looking to gain Xavi’s favor with their commitment.

Barcelona will be playing against Tottenham in the Joan Gamper Trophy next Tuesday, while they will play their La Liga opener on Sunday against Getafe.
