At this point in time, it is perhaps no secret that FC Barcelona are on the lookout for some good alternatives in the market. While Hansi Flick already has a strong squad at his disposal, there is always a need to improve at the highest level. For Barcelona, the best way to do that would be to reinforce some positions in the team.

The left-back position, for instance, is one where the club is already looking to identify different options for the next summer transfer window. However, that is not the only position that Barcelona is considering such options for, and another one just so happens to be the striker position.

That is because the club knows about Robert Lewandowski’s rather advanced age, despite his surreal scoring form, and knows that they need a back-up striker for the present and medium-term as soon as possible. One of the most accessible players they ultimately ended up identifying for this role is none other than Jonathan David.

The 24-year-old Canadian striker is in his final season with French side Lille, and his contract will expire in the summer of 2025 if he does not renew. This would make him a free agent, and that is why so many clubs are interested in signing him, including Barcelona.

According to SPORT, however, he is much more than just a free agent. In terms of his numbers, the Ligue 1 striker boasts a rather remarkable tally and has been consistent in terms of his displays as well, rather than simply being a player who is having a good season.

So far in this campaign, he already has 13 goals and two assists in 19 appearances for Lille. Similarly, when he was signed by the club in 2020, he also delivered 13 goals in his debut season for the club, ultimately helping them win the Ligue 1 title for the first time in a decade.

Moreover, the same report has labelled him as the most impactful North American player over the course of the last four years. His numbers and performances for Lille have made them a much stronger side, and that is exactly why he is seen as such a great market opportunity as a free agent.

Recently, however, he even made it quite clear what his preference would be in terms of the club he aspires to join. That club would be none other than FC Barcelona themselves, and with that open invitation comes a lot of pressure on the Catalan club to now find out a way to work out his potential transfer.
