As has been the case in the last two summer transfer windows, FC Barcelona will once again have to find a solution to their Clement Lenglet problem this year.
The French defender has a contract till 2026 with the Catalan club but is not wanted in the team for the next season. This is mainly because of his high salary, and also because Flick will have a highly stacked backline even without Lenglet.
The defender spent the last two seasons on loan in the Premier League, first at Tottenham and then at Aston Villa. This time, Barcelona can find a destination for him closer to home as Mundo Deportivo reports that the La Liga side Real Sociedad is interested in signing the center-back.
La Reale are looking for a center-back after having sold Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid for €30 million, and Lenglet can be one of the candidates to replace him.
Real Sociedad are looking for a defender who can have an instant impact in the team, as they have a big hole to fill with Le Normand’s departure. Lenglet’s experience can thus come in handy for them.
However, Lenglet’s high wages can prevent Real Sociedad, or any other potential suitor, from incorporating him into their squad.
For now, the report claims that Lenglet’s entourage is denying any knowledge about such a potential move. However, if this interest materializes further in the coming days, Lenglet will assess the sporting and economic proposal before giving any answer.
Some Saudi clubs have also tried to convince the defender to join them in recent months, but Lenglet remains uninterested in playing in the Middle Eastern country for now. In fact, he likes Flick’s style of play, and would be open to staying at Barcelona, but the Catalans would rather have him gone mainly because of his high wages.
