In light of the exorbitant spending from other Leagues, FC Barcelona and other La Liga clubs have faltered rather visibly in this summer’s transfer market in terms of making significant signings or are projected to not being able to spend any significant amounts of money during the window either.

As a result, a global image of La Liga as becoming increasingly less competitive is amassing more and more agreements. Simultaneously, this does not simply hurt just the images and reputations of the clubs that are a part of the league, but also hinders potential arrivals as they begin to ponder whether the league is lucrative enough to even be a part of.

Thus, measures were needed to curb such economic restrictions on La Liga clubs. According to the latest details provided by SPORT, La Liga president Javier Tebas and his executive team have given the green light to increase the amount a team can spend towards new arrivals in relation to their salary mass saved through a sale or offloading a player.

Previously kept at 40% by La Liga officially, the league has now collectively agreed to increase this limit to 50% universally and 60% in the scenario that the salary saved from a certain departure is equivalent to 5% of that side’s total salary mass, meaning it refers to a club’s high earners in this scenario.

These measures as an adjustment to Article 100 as per the regulations of La Liga, and these modifications come as a result of the clubs needing to be more competitive in the transfer market.

While the financial highs provided by clubs from outside Europe such as the Saudi Arabian sides or even the American MLS are too far a stretch to reach, these regulation modifications should help Barcelona and co attempt to better compete against clubs from the English Premier League or other European sides.
