FC Barcelona were once again unable to get a win in La Liga on Saturday as they drew the game against Valencia with a 1-1 scoreline. Joao Felix opened the score for the Catalans in the 55th minute, but Valencia’s Hugo Guillamon came up with the equalizer 15 minutes later, and no other goals were scored till the full-time whistle.
Having lost the game against Girona in the last league matchday as well, this draw can hurt Barcelona’s chances of retaining the league title. This sentiment was also shared by one of the Barcelona players, Joao Cancelo, as he spoke to the media after the match.
As SPORT has reported, the fullback rued the missed opportunities and reminded everyone how important it was to get the full three points in this match:
“We had chances to score two or three goals. Things are getting difficult in the league, but we have to fight until the end. If we had converted the chances we had, we could have scored three or four goals. That’s the picture I have.”
The Portuguese international also talked about the pressure at Barcelona, and how this pressure could have impacted the youngsters in the team:
“We have a very young team, and we’re in a tough moment. Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and there’s a lot of pressure. I like it, but we’re in a tough moment, and we have to rise up.”
Cancelo then went on to explain how getting more experience will help these youngsters cope with the pressure better:
“I don’t think the same now as I did when I was 20. Pressure, for me, is different. Life is a learning experience. It’s a point that feels like little, and no one will remember that we played a good game.”
Getting more experience will definitely help the youngsters become more resistant to pressure, but naturally, this will require a lot of time.
Barcelona need results now, and veterans like Cancelo themselves will have to lead the team in the coming matches to get the required results to end the season with some silverware.
