FC Barcelona have just recently defeated Atletico Madrid in a rather grueling fashion in La Liga. Despite Atletico having the home advantage, Barça managed to sweep them away with a 3-0 scoreline. However, it seems that the side from the Metropolitano has unfinished business with Barcelona even now.

It is not uncommon to see players switch between the two opponents from Catalonia and Madrid. Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez, and Memphis Depay are just a few of the names that have gone from one side to the other in recent times.

However, it would appear that Atletico Madrid hope to ignite the possibility of another such transfer. This time, as highlighted by SPORT, the target would be none other than Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski. Rather coincidentally, the same man who contributed to each of the three goals Atletico conceded at the hands of Barcelona.

As per the report, Diego Simeone’s side believes the recent defeat to Barça has been an eye-opener. While the victory over Inter Milan boosted morale greatly within the club, the subsequent defeat to Xavi’s team has helped them see what exactly they lack.

Currently outside the European places within La Liga, their conquest of resilience continues in both Spain and in the Champions League. However, the final piece of the puzzle that they wish to acquire is a top striker. Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay are seen as good options, but not the kind that could elevate them to the next level.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, is seen as being exactly that. The Barcelona ace, despite a rough start to the season, has finally found his best version again. Scoring once again for fun it seems, he has climbed his way back into a potential race for the Pichichi as well.

At the moment, Barcelona hope to keep Lewandowski as per his contract which still has two seasons left. However, reports clash a bit on the true intentions of Barça as some would claim they hope to part ways with him in the summer. If that does turn out to be the case, Atletico could very well be one of the clubs gunning to sign the Polish legend.
