FC Barcelona saw some of its important attackers depart in the last summer transfer window, including Ousmane Dembele, and while Joao Felix was incorporated into the club, Xavi has had to rely on youngsters like Lamine Yamal to keep a competitive attacking line.
Injuries to Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha were particularly problematic. In order to avoid such a situation in the future, the club is already aiming to reinforce its attack and the Catalans are looking for a left winger in particular.
Barcelona interested in Savinho
According to SPORT, this is an explicit request from Xavi, and the club has already started working on fulfilling this request. A list of suitable forwards has already been compiled, and one of the most prominent names on this list is that of the Brazilian, Savio Moreira de Oliveira.
Savio has been a revelation in La Liga this season, as he has starred for Michel’s Girona in a spectacular fashion. He has already scored three goals and given four assists in his eleven games in Spain, and his name is generating a lot of interest in Barcelona offices.
Being only 19 years old, the Brazilian fully meets the criteria set by the club and Deco, i.e., being young and having room for further development.
Deco knows him since his senior debut
Moreover, the Barcelona Sporting Director believes in his technical qualities personally. Seeing as other wingers, such as Raphinha, can seem too one-dimensional at times, Savio offers a much more versatile approach that Deco himself has come to love.
Young Savio is originally contracted to French side Troyes, but is only on loan at Girona for this season. This particular loan deal came to being due to both the French and Catalan club being part of the ‘City Group’.
These clubs are essentially under the same ownership and it includes a vast variety of sides across the planet. Even the all-powerful Manchester City belong to this select group of clubs.
