In recent years, FC Barcelona have seen a number of highly promising forwards develop and graduate from La Masia. Among these forwards at the club’s academy, Lamine Yamal has arguably been the most bright and shone the most among other players of his age group.
Yamal turned sixteen years of age only the last week but has already made his La Liga debut with the first team, and Xavi has called him up several times to train with the first team squad.
Now that the player is sixteen years old, FC Barcelona can give him his first professional contract. Negotiations for such a contract had been underway for some weeks now, and there was a reported agreement between the player and the club that remaining at Barcelona would be in the best interests of both parties.
Now, Fabrizio Romano claims that Yamal has already signed his new contract with FC Barcelona, which will go up till 2026. This renewed contract will keep the player at Camp Nou for the next three years, as UEFA regulations only allow contracts for up to three years for youth players.
The Catalan giants will officially announce the contract renewal of Yamal when the squad will return from the USA tour as per a report from Mundo Deportivo.
Owing to the potential and talent he has shown in the last few months, Yamal has been the subject of interest from different clubs across Europe. Real Madrid were also reported to be interested in the player, but his new contract will help Barcelona protect the player from the wooing efforts of these clubs.
This new contract also showcases the trust that Barcelona have in the youngster. The club believes he will be a world-beater in the coming years, and is already taking steps to ensure that his continuity at Barcelona is not endangered when he announces himself as a top-class winger.
