As has been mentioned many times before, fate and FC Barcelona have a unique relationship. The Catalan club is all too familiar with the graces of coincidence and cycles, and the occurrences are far too common for it to be simply luck. Even now, the clock of fate continues to tick in amusing ways when it comes to Barcelona.
The rather surreal occasion that marked the meeting of Barça legend Lionel Messi and current wonderkid Lamine Yamal close to 16 years ago, for instance, is still something that is hard to wrap a head around.
Already confirmed to have been the first meeting between the two future Barcelona stars, the pictures that provide evidence to those meetings are now historic artifacts.
However, while there may be a great precedent of fate and coincidence at Barcelona, those occurrences are not only driven by mere fortune.
Now, in his teens and having recently turned 17, Spanish wonderkid Lamine Yamal wishes to encounter his idol and Argentina’s World Cup hero at least once more, as highlighted by RAC1:
“I hope Messi wins the Copa America and I win the Euros, so I can play against him in the Finalissima.”
For those that are unaware, the Finalissima is an international final of sorts between the winner of Europe’s continental trophy and the winner of South America’s continental trophy. The last edition saw Argentina take on Italy, with the Albiceleste reigning supreme thanks to a great performance by Messi himself.
Now, almost two years later, Yamal aspires to clash with his former Barcelona hero again. They may have met by chance once before, but the young winger certainly does not wish to meet again solely on the basis of pure coincidence. This time around, the young Spaniard wants to make his own destiny.
To do that, however, he must first overcome a formidable English side in the European Championship final. Fortunately for the young Barcelona winger, Spain have thus far looked more than capable thanks to his contributions and the overall quality of his teammates, and the tactics on which they base their game.
