In addition to the change in players representing FC Barcelona on the pitch, spectators will notice another change immediately with the start of the next season: the kit these players wear. The change in kit will be there to see for everyone in the team’s pre-season matches in the USA.
Traditionally, FC Barcelona have worn the blue and garnet colors as their home kits. The away kit keeps changing over the years, and for the upcoming season, the club’s second kit color will be white.
The white color is traditionally associated with Barcelona’s traditional rivals Real Madrid. As a result, it is expected that the feedback towards this second would not be all positive.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, was also put to question regarding this choice for the kit color. The President clarified that “It’s not completely white, you know. It has some blue and garnet details, and it’s a tribute to one of the first shirts worn by Cruyff. The commercial brands are there; they have studied this thoroughly. When we joined the club, it was a decision that had already been made and we believe that a color should not be exclusive to anyone. In any case, it’s a Barça white.”
When further probed about the choice of this color, the President responded that he actually likes the shirt, which is not all white but also has the traditional Barcelona colors on the sleeves. He also rejected the notion that Real Madrid can take this choice of kit color as a provocation and claimed that the only motivation behind this choice of the color was a business one.
It remains to be seen how the Blaugrana fans will receive the white kit, but there is some truth to Laporta’s words. The club has not had a white second kit in recent memory, and the second kit for the upcoming season can be a collector’s item as the club is unlikely to play in white again in the future.
