As the team ended the 2023-24 season without any piece of silverware, the current summer is expected to witness significant changes at FC Barcelona. Xavi has already been dismissed as the team’s head coach after the last La Liga game against Sevilla, and while the club is yet to announce his replacement, Hansi Flick is expected to be his successor at Barcelona.

Similarly, the team itself is likely to undergo several changes, especially as Barcelona need to generate cash to bring in new players, and some players in the current squad may not have a place in the next manager’s plans.

Beyond these changes in the team, some changes are also expected in the administration of the club, as the journalist Alex Pintanael reports that the club president, Joan Laporta, is considering getting the former Director of Football, Mateu Alemany, back at the Catalan club.

The former Barcelona official left the club last September, and Laporta believes that he can once again be a decisive factor for the Blaugranes as they look to assemble the team for Flick, and are close to returning to the 1:1 rule.

However, a possible return of Alemany does not mean a departure of the current Sporting Director, Deco, in Laporta’s mind. For the President, the ideal scenario would be the one in which both these individuals work together, as was the case in the latter period of the last summer transfer window.

Deco himself made it clear that he and Alemany are not incompatible as he took charge at Barcelona, but despite Laporta’s wishes, it seems highly unlikely that the two individuals will be able to work together.

For now, this possibility exists only as an idea in Laporta’s mind, and no concrete steps have yet been taken to make it a reality. Alemany himself is currently without any commitments, despite him being linked with Atletico Madrid and being touted as a possible candidate for the presidency in the Spanish Football Federation.
