FC Barcelona have a very uncertain future ahead of them. The club’s economic woes are well-known and now, the sporting aspect of the Catalan club is also going to become significantly uncertain as doubts grow about Xavi’s abilities to take the team forward.
With the team’s elimination from Copa del Rey only a few days after the humiliation against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super League final, it is only natural that rumors about Xavi leaving the club are growing at Barcelona. These sentiments have also been fanned by another event that shook the world of football today.
The current Liverpool head coach, Jurgen Klopp, has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the current season. The German remains one of the best tacticians in football, and has been linked with almost all the big clubs across Europe in the past.
In fact, as SPORT has reported, the Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, has always liked Klopp, and it was his dream to bring the German as Barcelona’s coach. However, Klopp’s association with Liverpool made it impossible for Laporta to actually try and bring him to Barcelona in recent years.
The Catalans are unlikely to get him after this season as well, as the German wants to take a sabbatical after saying his goodbyes at Liverpool. However, as he will be free of any commitments, his name is expected to be linked with a lot of clubs in the coming summer.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have decided to keep Xavi in charge till the end of this season, as the former midfielder was Laporta’s bet, and he came at a time of huge difficulty for the club. Decisions regarding his future at the club will be made after the season, keeping in view how many of the club’s objectives Xavi has achieved.
