FC Barcelona continues to struggle with financial debt but simultaneously remains active in the transfer window. The Catalan giants remain a European powerhouse and it continues to work in their favor. However, even they can only pursue a particular type of player.
The targets have to be either low-cost arrivals, free transfers, or loan options. FC Barcelona managed to secure signings in all three categories. Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and Athletic Bilbao’s Inigo Martinez were both free transfers. Their contract ran out with their respective clubs and this allowed Barça to take advantage.
Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix are both currently on loan. The Portuguese duo have been heavily impactful for Barcelona, but are only temporary recruits. Thus far, a direct transfer fee has only been involved in the arrival of former Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu.
Looking forward to the upcoming summer, Mundo Deportivo reports a new name linked to Barça. This one hails from Nigeria and currently plays for Leicester City. Wilfred Ndidi is a 26-year-old Nigerian midfielder who sees his contract conclude in the summer of 2024.
Alongside other stars such as Real Betis’s Guido Rodriguez, Ndidi continues to be linked to La Blaugrana. Interestingly, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were both reportedly keeping an eye on his development as well.
In general, Barcelona remains attentive to contracted players that could soon become free agents. This helps the Catalans keep names in mind that could be viable options to count on bringing in. For now, Ndidi’s link to Barcelona remains vague, and further updates will be needed to solidify the reported interest.
