There are not many players FC Barcelona let slip, but sometimes great ones do end up running away. The Blaugranes, for all their glory and splendor, have not exactly been the best at recruiting in recent times. Much of that blame for that goes towards the previous Barcelona board for most people.

However, more recently, the Catalan giants have been far more careful about letting go of solid prospects. Despite their best attempts, more and more names do manage to slip between their fingers. One such name currently plays in Germany, and many wonder if Barcelona rue their decision to let him go.

Alejandro Grimaldo, aged 28, is a player currently tearing it up in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen. The Spanish fullback has been exceptional this season, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, and has been making Barcelona regret their decision to pass on him.

Even in his latest outing against Koln, the 28-year-old added his name to the scoresheet. That takes his goalscoring tally this season to 11 goals, which is the exact same number of goals scored by the second-best goalscorer of Barcelona this season, Ferran Torres.

With Grimaldo being a fullback, these figures become even more striking. Moreover, that is not all that he has contributed to Xabi Alonso’s team. In terms of assists and creativity, the Spaniard has provided 10 assists to his teammates, with his latest being the one for his fellow fullback Jeremie Frimpong in the recent win.

This number of assists matches the ones provided by Barcelona star Ilkay Gundogan this season. The German midfielder is Barça’s best creator this season, and his numbers are matched by the fullback as well.

It is safe to say that Grimaldo’s season is putting him with the absolute best in Europe. Moreover, he is definitely someone who may have been quite effective for Barcelona this season as he plays as a left-back primarily and Barça currently have both their main left-backs injured.
