Robert Lewandowski’s poor form since the start of the current season is a matter of great concern for FC Barcelona. The Pole is currently the only natural center-forward in Barcelona’s squad, and he has most of the goalscoring responsibilities resting on his shoulders this season.

Vitor Roque is expected to join up with the Barcelona squad in January, and his arrival will lighten this burden on Lewandowski to some extent. Still, he will be the only experienced leader of the attack in the squad, as Roque will need some time to adapt to his new club and country.

The poor form of Lewandowski this season naturally leads one to remember one of the mistakes that Barcelona made in the last few years.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came to Barcelona in January 2022 for free after forcing Arsenal to terminate his contract. His experience and skills were essential to help Barcelona end the 2022-23 season in a dignified manner.

Aubameyang scored 13 goals in 23 matches for FC Barcelona in La Liga and UEFA Europa League, and quickly made his place in the hearts of Cules in his time at the club.

However, this time was rather short as Barcelona sold him to Chelsea in the summer of 2022, as they got €12 million for a player they had got for free only six months ago.

The Gabonese striker was unable to flourish at Chelsea, however, and offered himself to Barcelona both in January 2023 and the ensuing summer with a letter of freedom from the London club.

However, Barcelona were unable to get him in the winter due to their problems with FFP, and decided to bet on the youngster Vitor Roque in the summer.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang himself joined Olympique Marseille at the start of this season, where he has been shining. According to SPORT, he has scored 12 goals and given 6 assists with the French team, while Barcelona are missing a player just of his profile.

Though Aubameyang has found form in France, Barcelona will now be hoping that their decision to bet on Vitor Roque turns out to be a good one, as the Brazilian is expected to start training with the Catalan team in the last days of this month.
