After a somewhat underwhelming last season, the FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is once again proving himself to be one of the best players in his position in Europe this season.

The Polish superstar has already scored 19 goals in 17 games this season, and even at 36 years of age, is showcasing that he is still as lethal as he has been throughout his career.

However, despite this strong start to the season, Barcelona are aware that the Pole is already in the limelight of his career, and they will have to look for another long-term striker for their team sooner or later.

Thus, this position is one of the main points on which Deco will have to make a decision as he plans the next squad for the Catalan club. The Portuguese official will have to take multiple factors into account before making such a decision, but according to SPORT, he already has a favorite to be Barcelona’s short and long-term striker, Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Barcelona will have a lot of thinking to do before deciding whether they should make a move for the Swedish striker. But the most important factor will be Lewandowski’s performance going forward.

If the Pole continues to perform at the same level till the end of the season that he has shown until now, he will make a very strong case to remain the team’s preferred striker for the next season. Lewandowski will also get an automatic one-year extension if he plays 55% of the games this season for at least 45 minutes.

In such a scenario, Barcelona will have to make a decision whether to try convincing the €70 million-rated Gyokeres to join them next summer, knowing that they will have to shell out a significant amount of money for him and he will have to share the spotlight with Lewandowski.

On the other hand, if they decide to wait till 2026, they might not have such a promising candidate available in the market, as Gyokeres is highly likely to join a big club next summer.

If Lewandowski’s performances decline in the coming months, Barcelona can try to negotiate an exit for him, with MLS and Saudi Arabian teams already having shown an interest in him for some time now.
