FC Barcelona continue to promote urgency when it comes to the topic of departures, as these very players that the club is looking to offload will end up becoming the key to unlocking the gates for further arrivals over the course of the summer transfer window.
At the moment, the players that the club continues to look towards most favorably in terms of offloading them are first-team players such as Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, and Franck Kessie, with only the latter seeming content with the idea of a transfer.
However, there is the prospect of deciding the futures of various loan players, one of which is a certain French defender that Barcelona may soon successfully sell after a decent loan spell.
According to the latest update on Samuel Umtiti by SPORT, the 29-year-old defender is being heavily linked to French club Olympique de Lyon as a potential transfer waiting to happen.
The French club is where the 29-year-old spent a major part of his career, for both Lyon and Lyon II from 2010 all the way to 2016, when he transferred to FC Barcelona for around €25 million.
As of right now, it is being reported that Lyon and Barcelona are currently considering the deal for Umtiti to be one where every party will need to do their respective part to make it feasible and possible.
Barcelona may have to essentially give up hopes on receiving a transfer fee for the player in order to completely transfer the salary burden concerning the deferred payments and increased wages of the player to Lyon.
On the other hand, Lyon are looking to wrap up the transfer of their own French central defender, Lukeba, to RB Leipzig for around €30 million. In turn, this would allow Lyon to possess enough funds to be able to accommodate Umtiti’s signing and subsequent wages.
Lastly, even the player himself may have to potentially give up a portion of his pending salary so that his acquisition becomes feasible for Lyon in the coming days.
As of now, Barcelona are hoping to get this deal done before the end of the month of June, in order for them to be able to progress in other operations that are still pending.
