Although the financial conditions of FC Barcelona have put significant handicaps on them when they try to sign new players, there is no doubt that the Catalan club remains one of the most desired destinations of top talents emerging throughout the world.
This was definitely the case for the Lille forward Edon Zhegrova, who has been playing at a very high level with the French club and rose to prominence in the last few days with his performance and MVP award against Real Madrid.
As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the 25-year-old forward has never hidden his desire to play for Barcelona one day. His clearest sign of intent to play for the Blaugranes came when he was 21 years old and playing with Basel in Switzerland in 2020. Regarding his aspirations for the future, the forward said at that time:
“I am never satisfied. I always seek more and I think I have to take things step by step. Most talents that exploded early then fell off. I had the chance to go to the biggest teams in the world, but I didn’t. Soon you will see the real Edon. I have no weaknesses. One day you will see me at FC Barcelona.”
Even before that, when he was playing with the Belgian side Genk in 2017, the Kosovar forward identified two Barcelona players that he admired in particular: “Messi is my role model, and Neymar is the player I admire the most.”
During his career, Zhegrova has played in several different countries with different clubs, including Genk, Basel, and Lille. He has been shining with the French side since his move in 2022 and has already scored six goals in ten appearances this season.
He reiterated his desire to play for the Blaugranas only a few months ago, a sentiment that has resurfaced following his incredible display against Real Madrid. “My dream has always been FC Barcelona, I’ve always said it, and I won’t stop until I achieve it.”
Zhegrova’s father has revealed in the past that contacts took place between the player’s entourage and Barcelona in the past, but did not really bore fruit. However, with the way he is performing and the commitment he is already showing to don the Blaugrana colors, he seems destined to play for Barcelona at some time in his career.
