Joao Felix was finally able to join FC Barcelona on the last day of the recently closed summer transfer window. The player had confessed his admiration for the Catalan club a few weeks ago and had disclosed that it was a childhood dream for him to be able to play for the Blaugranes.

Although it is clear that his time at Atletico Madrid was not the best of his career, he still made a good deal of sacrifices to be able to join the Catalans this summer.

Economic sacrifices

As already reported here, one of these major sacrifices given by Felix was of an economic nature, as the Portuguese international significantly lowered his wages to be able to join the Catalan club. Barcelona would be only paying him €400,000 per year, in order to successfully incorporate Felix into their wage bill.

Furthermore, Felix has also reduced his salary with Atletico Madrid in his new contract that he signed with the Mattress Makers before moving to Barcelona, which will tie him to Atletico Madrid till 2029.

Other big clubs interested in Felix

Felix also virtually closed down the opportunities for any other club to be able to sign him, as he only had Barcelona on his mind. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the youngster had a number of offers on the table, including from Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Al-Hilal, but the player rejected all of them to join Barcelona.

Liverpool wanted him in a swap for Darwin Nunez with Atletico, while Manchester United were interested in loaning him for a year. Aston Villa also tried hard to sign him, as did Al-Hilah, who eventually signed Neymar from PSG after getting rejected by Felix.
