The domestic triumphs of FC Barcelona in the previous season came as a consequence of several top performances throughout the campaign. Some of these players, unsurprisingly, have sparked interest from other European giants.
One of the club’s important assets in La Liga proved to be Raphinha, who accumulated 10 goals and 12 assists and concluded the campaign with the second-highest G/A in the team, behind Robert Lewandowski.
According to Footmercato, Manchester City have emerged as a potential destination for Raphina. The report states that Riyad Mahrez, an important figure at the Etihad, is tempted by offers abroad and may end up hitting the exit ramp. Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal appears highly interested in his services.
In the event Manchester City lose their right-winger, they will seek to replace his presence with Raphinha. The Brazilian has proven himself in the Premier League before, thanks to his successful tenure at Leeds.
Pep Guardiola is also drawn to him because of his profile. Txiki Begiristain, City’s sporting director, and Deco, Barca’s soon-to-be Sporting Director and a former Raphinha agent, have made their first contact.
While the South American winger was also previously approached by Newcastle United, Barcelona refused to sell their winger, with reports that Xavi aspires to persist with Raphinha in the squad next season.
Nonetheless, with Raphinha in his prime years and Barcelona likely to fetch a hefty sum for the player, City’s approach could help alleviate the Catalan’s financial woes.
The Blaugranes are tasked to free up room in their wage bill and settle issues with Fair play. As such, the club’s finances would benefit extensively from selling Raphinha. For now, Barcelona are willing to hear any offers that come their way, with a select few members of the squad only deemed untouchable.
