It is beyond clear that FC Barcelona has to make certain positions a priority to reinforce. Not every area in the squad needs equal attention, but some do more than others. Two of those positions are undoubtedly the pivot and fullback positions for Barcelona.

They continue to hunt down pivots that could potentially fit their own criteria. However, there is both the matter of the quality of the player and the price tag attached to him that needs to be assessed. For the fullback position, however, Barcelona seem to have a much more clear idea.

Apart from the several loanees who could return from other clubs, Barcelona have an elite option within touching distance. Joao Cancelo, already with Barcelona, is currently on loan from Premier League side Manchester City. However, Barça wish to make his stay permanent, and the player wishes to make that a reality as well.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, some strong advances will finally be made. Jorge Mendes, the agent of the player, is set to visit the city of Manchester in England and meet up with Man City representatives. After a previous meeting with Deco and Barcelona, it seems that the wheels are finally in motion.

The proposal that will be presented will either be that of a reduced transfer fee or one that sees Cancelo extend his loan at Barcelona by another season.

He has already made it clear to his agent that his priority is to remain in Spain. Moreover, Barcelona believe that with Cancelo’s commitment to the Blaugrana cause, they can get City to agree to the €20 million price they are willing to offer.

At 29, Cancelo is playing at the peak of his abilities and maturity. The Catalan giants appreciate his immense quality, but also his mentality and leadership in crucial moments.

Just like with Joao Felix, the Blaugranes wish to permanently purchase both Portuguese stars. However, Cancelo’s situation seems a lot more possible for Barcelona to overcome than that of Felix’s.
