Ilkay Gundogan is one of the top transfer targets for FC Barcelona in this summer transfer window, but his transfer is becoming increasingly difficult as days go by.

The player was expected to make a decision about his next destination after the Champions League final but has not done so despite a significant time having passed since that event.

Barcelona have been clearly interested in the midfielder, and their interest has increased since the departure of Sergio Busquets. Xavi believes getting the player would help make the team more competitive for the next season. Meanwhile, Manchester City are also doing their best to convince the midfielder to extend his contract with his current club.

However, the latest report from SPORT raises significant concerns about whether FC Barcelona can actually land the German this summer.

The report claims that Gundogan, during the UCL winning celebrations, expressed his concerns about the possibility of a move to Camp Nou and disclosed to his inner circle that while he wants to join the Catalans, he has not yet received an offer from them.

He further mentioned that owing to Barcelona’s financial constraints, he will have to end up staying at City or joining Al-Hilal.

FC Barcelona are currently going through a difficult financial phase, but there was optimism that the club would somehow be able to get the experienced German during this transfer window. However, Messi’s decision not to rejoin his boyhood club has put the financial conditions of the club on display for everyone, and Gundogan himself is aware of this situation.

As a result, Gundogan is seemingly accepting the possibility that he would not be able to join Barcelona, something he desired to do before hanging up his boots. While the player is yet to decide his future, the offers from Manchester City and Al-Hilal look more convincing to the midfielder as his chances of playing with Barcelona grow slim.
