Man City “more open” to letting defensive outcast leave for Real Madrid than for Barcelona

FC Barcelona have not had a reliable right back since Dani Alves’ departure from the club, and this problem has cost the club dearly in the last few seasons. To mitigate this issue, the club is looking for a number of targets in the upcoming transfer window.

One of these main targets for the club going into the next season is the Manchester City player Joao Cancelo. The player is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians are not expected to buy the player permanently, and Manchester City are also not very keen to make him a part of their squad for the next season.

As a result, the Manchester club is aiming to sell the player once his loan term expires. SPORT reports that both FC Barcelona and their rivals, Real Madrid, are interested in the player. Barcelona had already tried to get the player in the winter window, but Bayern’s offer was better than that of the Catalans, and City accepted Munich’s approach at that time.

Now again, FC Barcelona will be facing competition for his signature, this time from their bitter rivals, Real Madrid. FC Barcelona have already contacted the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, for a transfer, but the interest from Madrid can change things up.

The Capital-based club is expected to be without the services of Lucas Vasquez in the upcoming season, and they need a quality backup for Dani Carvajal. Cancelo’s quality and experience make him an ideal candidate for Madrid.

Meanwhile, the better financial condition of Real Madrid would allow them to trump Barcelona in the pursuit of the player. Previously, the Blaugranes were quite confident in their operation for the player, as they were not facing any competition. But as Real Madrid will be able to pay a higher amount for the Portuguese, City will be more open to letting him leave for Madrid than for Barcelona.
