The summer transfer window is still far away for Barcelona, but they look to plan ahead. Given their rather uneasy financial standing, it only makes sense for the Catalan club to have an idea in terms of transfer plans. However, not all the plans for Barcelona involve just arrivals.
In fact, it is exactly because of their financial issues that the sale of important players is being considered. Key stars with great values could be key to helping Barcelona become stable again should they be sold, but understanding which players are actually worth letting go of is another dilemma altogether.
One star who has had a number of reports published linking him to a move away from Barça is Frenkie De Jong. The Dutch midfielder reportedly is open to making a move away, while other reports claim it not to be the case. However, one of his old suitors from England does not seem to give up hope in either case.
English Premier League side Manchester United still remains on the tail of the Dutch star. Having failed to acquire him previously with their attempts, they are now once again attentive to his situation. In fact, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, they are willing to go to great lengths for him.
MD highlights that Manchester United have lined up four players who they are willing to part ways with and offer to Barcelona in order to decrease the final cost for De Jong’s operation. At the moment, the reported asking price for the Dutchman’s transfer is set at €100 million.
Here are the four players that United is reportedly willing to part ways with.
Jadon Sancho (23-years-old):
An English winger with a creative touch and a flair to his dribbling game, Jadon Sancho was once the prized signing of Manchester United. However, due to conflicts with the coach, the player lost most of his prominence in the team.
Fortunately for him, he got a loan move back to Borussia Dortmund. Over in Germany, he is impressing once again in the Bundesliga. With Barcelona needing a winger with unbalancing qualities, he could just fit the bill.
Antony (23-years-old):
Another seemingly promising winger who seems to have failed at Manchester United. The Brazilian winger, formerly from Ajax, was a massive transfer for the Red Devils. His price tag, close to the €100 million mark, remains unjustified. However, due to his age, he could still have some untapped potential.
Scott McTominay (27-years-old):
A defensive midfielder with an ability to deliver in the box, the Scottish midfielder has had quite the season with United thus far. With his ability to score, provide assists, and his physical strengths as well, he could be a good cover option to enter the Barcelona midfield, one which lacks a proper pivot.
Mason Greenwood (22-years-old):
A player remembered more for his antics off the field than on them, Mason Greenwood is no longer in the plans of Manchester United. Currently on loan at La Liga side Getafe, the English winger has been quite solid for them. Perhaps his explosiveness could be something that entices Barcelona, but other values must be considered as well given his past and his record.
