The eve of the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid was a night to be forgotten as soon as possible for almost the entire FC Barcelona team. None of the Xavi’s men were able to impress on that night, and their performances resulted in a humiliation at the hands of the club’s fiercest rivals.
While none of them really shone, the one who had the worst outing in Riyadh was the center-back, Ronald Araujo.
The Uruguayan is one of the most reliable pieces for Xavi Hernandez, but he was well below his expected standards against Real Madrid, as he gave away a penalty and also had to leave the pitch with a red card in the 71st minute.
Still, it can be easily argued that it was just a bad night for the defender, and the team in general, and his quality remains beyond any doubt. Other clubs in Europe will agree with this assessment as Bayern Munich are particularly willing to sign the defender and can pay as much as €70 million for him.
There were reports that the Bayern Munich head coach, Thomas Tuchel, has himself communicated with the Uruguayan to convince him to move to Bavaria, and is also pushing internally to convince his club to get the defender at any cost.
However, Araujo is fully committed to Barcelona and has expressed this commitment once again before the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo notes that there is another side interested in the center-back, i.e., the Premier League giants, Manchester United.
The report mentions that the Red Devils are looking to strengthen their defence, after having faced problems in this key area throughout the season, and Araujo is an ideal candidate for them.
However, as was the case with Bayern Munich, Araujo has also rejected Manchester United’s offer for now. Ten Haag’s team has offered to almost double the Uruguayan’s current wages, but the player himself wants a winning project and trophies, two things that the Premier League side currently cannot offer.
