Heading into the summer, there are some genuine uncertainties within FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants know that they must reinforce themselves, but they need to do so in a stable fashion. Yet, to achieve that stable means of operating, Barcelona may have to make some sacrifices.

From among the potential sacrifices that can be made by La Blaugrana, the sale of star players is right at the top of the list. This includes players from across the squad, but some Barcelona stars understandably would generate more financial leverage in favor of Barcelona.

One such star is Uruguayan defender and Barça captain Ronald Araujo. Already one of the world’s very best in his specific position, the 25-year-old is sought by many of the elites of European football.

This included German giants Bayern Munich, but it also includes a certain English side which is gaining gradual momentum in their pursuit of the Barcelona defender.

According to SPORT, Premier League giants Manchester United are speeding up their interest for Araujo. While they were speculated to have been interested in him since quite some time, it is now being reported that they are accelerating this interest and are willing to go above and beyond to recruit him.

To put things into relativity, the report claims that if Bayern were willing to offer close to €80 million for the Barcelona defender, Manchester United are willing to significantly overtake that valuation. Moreover, they are also quite convincing on a personal level in terms of the terms they are willing to offer the player.

According to the report itself, their previous offer to Araujo was close to three times what Barcelona was offering him in terms of a renewal deal to the defender. Ultimately, the Uruguayan ended up staying with the Catalan giants and making financial sacrifices to retain his loyalty to the club.

For now, speculation suggests Manchester United are willing to go even bigger for him. Moreover, with the tense situation surrounding Araujo’s camp and recent rumors circulating, there is some significant doubt being created within the Barcelona environment.

Barça themselves prioritize the continuity of the defender, and see him as the future of the team. However, their financial restraints are also problematic, and must be addressed.

Keeping that in mind, the massive deal that Araujo could end up being involved in if Manchester United come barging in may end up being extremely beneficial to Barcelona on an economic level.
