Bringing in a right back for the club’s squad for next season is one of the priorities for FC Barcelona in this summer transfer window. Joao Cancelo is one of the player’s the club is interested in bringing to Camp Nou, and there have been new updates about his potential transfer to Barcelona.

After bringing in a midfielder to compensate for the loss of Sergio Busquets, the club’s sporting department would be looking to bring a right back as its highest priority. In this regard, contacts with Joao Cancelo’s agents have been underway.

Recent reports from SPORT claimed that Mendes has agreed to work on this operation with FC Barcelona and has also disclosed to the Catalan club that Manchester City would be looking to offload the player this summer. Now latest reports from SPORT claim that Manchester City are asking for €40 million from Barcelona for Cancelo.

Barcelona’s historical rivals, Real Madrid, were also reported to be interested in the player recently, but the report claims that the player is not a priority for the Capital club. While Madrid will be looking to bring a right back to upgrade on the declining Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez, they have not yet made a formal offer for the Portuguese.

Mendes has assured Barcelona that with time, their chances of getting the fullback will improve, as Guardiola does not want him at City, and Barcelona are the only serious contender for his signature right now. Cancelo will also be willing to lower his salary to join the Catalans.

Xavi would have preferred Juan Foyth to be bought by the club, but the high price put on him by Villareal makes his transfer difficult.

Thus, Mendes and Barcelona can work out a way to bring Cancelo to Camp Nou this summer, which will surely go on to strengthen the club’s squad, as Cancelo will directly address a serious weakness in the team.
