Within their quest to assemble and build a team that can compete for various competitions in the upcoming 2023/2024 season, Barcelona will understandably have to make certain decisions over who to prioritize and who not to.
There are several reasons that could lead to the club deciding why one player should be pursued and why others shouldn’t. At times there exist economic reasons that revolve around financial fair play and the budget currently allocated, or even sporting reasons as per the choice of the coaching staff and the players they deem fit their stylistic choices.
As per the recent updates provided by Catalan journalist Gerard Romero, one of the names that has been linked to Barcelona for quite some time now has been that of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, who according to the journalist, has been removed from the club’s list of feasible options for the summer.
Reported to be hotly pursued by French club Paris Saint-Germain, the Manchester City star is expected to be on his way out of the treble-winning English side currently being led by Spanish manager Pep Guardiola.
As is understood at the moment, while it is true that Xavi Hernandez and the rest of the Barcelona sporting staff consider Bernardo Silva to be an incredibly gifted and top-level player, and would welcome his signing from a sporting perspective, the reality is that he is far too out of Barcelona’s financial possibilities right now.
It is a widely documented fact that Blaugranes are currently going through monetary struggles with financial fair play. They are restricted to a very minimal spending budget due to past carelessness when it came to exorbitant spending.
Now, they must look to gather up most arrivals on either low-costs or as free transfers in order to not create further problems with the governing financial bodies.
Silva’s club teammate Ilkay Gundogan, on the other hand, remains very much on the radar of FC Barcelona given that he will soon become a free agent and the Catalan club have already reportedly sent him an improved verbal offer.
