Now in his sixth season at Barcelona, the midfielder Frenkie de Jong has become a very important part of this Blaugrana team.

He has played only 9 minutes in La Liga and 15 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season as he has only recently returned from the ankle injury he suffered in the last phases of the 2023-24 season, but he is expected to become an important member of Flick’s midfield in the weeks to come.

Despite being one of the most important names in the midfield for Barcelona, the Dutchman’s time at the Catalan club has not always been easy. He has faced criticism from the fans for controversies about his salary and injuries and has also been constantly linked with a move away from the club.

The Premier League giants Manchester United have long been associated with him, and this has especially been the case since Eric Ten Haag’s appointment as the head coach of the Red Devils.

The Premier League side made a significant investment in their squad once again in the last summer transfer window, shelling out a total of €204.5 million on signings like Matthijs de Light, Leny Yoro, Mazroui, Ugarte, and Zirkzee.

However, the addition of these players has still not been able to help Manchester United get the desired results, as they currently sit 14th on the Premier League table, having won only two of their seven matches.

Thus, SPORT reports that the top Manchester United brass is willing to once again help Ten Haag in the upcoming winter window, and the one player that the Dutch trainer wants the most in his team is, once again, Frenkie de Jong.

The €60m-rated midfielder himself wants to remain at Barcelona, he has made clear in several public appearances, but if the Blaugranes push him to accept a move to England, a solution can be found.

Flick also wants to retain the Dutchman in his squad going forward, but would accept the decision that the club makes in this regard.

Thus, the next two months will be pivotal for the Dutchman. He will have to renew his current contract which is set to expire in the summer of 2026, or accept a move to Manchester United.
