Owing to their financial difficulties, FC Barcelona will have to sell at least one of their key stars in this transfer window to get their desired reinforcements for the next season.
For this purpose, the Catalans had identified several players who were regular starters for Xavi last season for sale, including Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Raphniha. However, the former two are injured thus making their exits highly complicated, and Raphinha is also not too keen to move away from the club.
However, despite his injury, a report from Mundo Deportivo indicates that a big European side is still interested in signing the Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong this summer. This side is Manchester United, which had already been linked with the Barcelona captain for several years now.
Frenkie was injured in the latter parts of the last season, in the Bernabeu El Clasico, and was thus unable to participate in this summer’s UEFA EURO 2024 with the Netherlands. The last update on his condition was provided by the club on 10th July, when the team reported back for training after their holidays, and nothing has been known about his recovery since then.
Still, even with the problem in his right ankle, there is no doubt that Frenkie is a highly important player for Barcelona. He also has a very high demand in other big European sides, but Manchester United have been clearly the most interested side in him ever since the appointment of Eric Ten Hag as their head coach.
The report claims that the Red Devils have already gotten in contact with Barcelona for the midfielder. However, they have offered only around €35-46 million for him this time, which is far from the sum that a player of Frenkie’s quality and stature demands. He still has two years on his Barcelona contract, so the Catalans would not be looking to sell him at such a low price.
