Although being one of the important players in the FC Barcelona squad, the Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been linked with a move away from the Catalan club for quite some time now.

However, it is looking increasingly likely that he will remain at the Blaugrana club for the next season. One reason for this is the ankle injury that he suffered at the latter stage of the last season, and from which he is still recovering.

Furthermore, according to SPORT, the side that was looking the most likely to be his next destination, Manchester United, has also ruled out his signing. The Red Devils have shown the most interest in the midfielder, but citing Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the report claims that there are no negotiations ongoing for his signing.

The Dutchman has been linked with the Premier League side for quite some time now, especially with Eric Ten Haag on their bench. The Dutch tactician was the one who got the best out of Frenkie while at Ajax, and thus wants him under his orders once again.

It should be noted here that Ten Haag has already signed several of his trusted stars at Ajax for Manchester United, including Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Andre Onana, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazaroui. Thus, speculation about a potential move for the €70 million-rated Barcelona midfielder to United made sense, but it is ruled out for now.

Meanwhile, his situation at Barcelona also remains precarious as he is currently focused on his recovery. There is no fixed return date for the Dutch midfielder, but Flick had hinted in the presser before the Valencia game that he might return after the September international break.

Flick considers him to be an important player going forward and is not in favor of his departure. But having already suffered several ankle injuries, the player does not want to take any risks, and thus is working fully on his recovery for now.
