Marc Casado is living a dream this season. The 21-year-old midfield star has emerged out of nowhere from the academy into the first team and has gone on to establish himself as the engine room of Hansi Flick’s team.

Full credit must go to the German head coach for seeing the quality in Marc Casado that his predecessors failed to see. He was called up to the senior squad so many times last season under Xavi Hernandez but hardly got a look in under the Spanish tactician.

Such has been Casado’s performances so far this season that he has been called up by Luis de la Fuente to represent Spain at the senior level. In the absence of Rodri who is out with an ACL, the #6 position in La Roja squad is still up for grabs.

Casado, who is on international duty, gave an interview on El Partidazo de la Cadena Cope as quoted by SPORT, where he named one Barcelona legend who he has ‘looked up to the most’ growing up. He said:

“Busquets is the player I have looked up to the most. I saw that he talked about me here on El Partidazo de Cope, and I was very pleased.”

Unsurprisingly, Casado has named Busquets as his reference. Not just for the 21-year-old, but for an entire generation of pivots coming through and for an entire generation that is yet to come, the Spanish legend will continue to be the benchmark.

Busquets revolutionized the #6 position at Barcelona during his many years of service at the club. It was the very high standards set by the Inter Miami superstar that ended up being the Catalan club’s bane once he left the club the year before last.

After searching for a replacement all through last year and going down a disastrous route with Oriol Romeu, Barcelona have found the solution in Marc Casado. The 21-year-old has grown leaps and bounds with respect to his positional game, which was the major concern surrounding him.

It remains to be seen how Casado’s career progresses from here on. If he can have even half the career that Busquets had at Barcelona, the 21-year-old will go down as a club legend and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
