While 2024 has not been completely negative for Barcelona thus far, problems have persisted. The injury list for La Blaugrana is now getting any shorter, and in fact, more names have already been added. Moreover, it seems that multiple problems continue to persist for Barcelona across the board.

For this exact reason, it was crucial for Barcelona to not suffer any more unwanted losses. These ‘losses’ translate to both on and off the field. On the field, at least, Barcelona have managed to win two out of the two games they have thus far played in 2024.

However, they have also suffered additional casualties. Both Joao Cancelo and Inigo Martinez are now sidelined as they were injured against Las Palmas and Barbastro respectively. Moreover, just Alejandro Balde did last time, another star missed the latest training session due to illness.

As highlighted by SPORT, German veteran Ilkay Gundogan was nowhere to be seen in the latest training session. The former Manchester City midfielder has reportedly taken a leave from the latest session due to an ‘illness’. The exact specifications have not been mentioned but he remains unavailable for now.

However, since Balde missed the subsequent match after his illness, there is understandable concern about Gundogan’s availability as well. To put those worries at ease, SPORT claims that his participation in the Spanish Super Cup is not in danger.

Gundogan’s presence will undoubtedly be crucial for FC Barcelona. One of the most versatile players in the squad, he is also one of the most experienced and talented stars as well. His leadership qualities also enable Barcelona to settle better on the field, regardless of the opponent.

Barcelona next take on CA Osasuna in the Spanish Super Cup in Riyadh. The game is expected to be a great encounter for both teams involved. However, beyond just being a great sporting opportunity, it also offers great financial benefits to the competing teams.
