Amidst the proceedings of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, there lie players whose future transfers are yet to be completely sorted. Amongst such players is Barcelona and Spain captain Sergio Busquets, whose current contract with the Catalan club runs out at the end of this season and thus he finds beckoning calls from across the continent.
According to Mundo Deportivo, former Manchester United player David Beckham’s Inter Miami have reportedly been the leading club when it comes to acquiring the signature of Sergio Busquets, and while reports suggest that no concrete contractual obligations exist as of yet, it remains perhaps the most enticing of all the offers for the Spanish International.
Regardless, current Barcelona manager Xavi would also reportedly like a different outcome from this transfer saga, instead preferring Busquets to extend his contract by another year as the former Barcelona midfielder believes the current captain has more to offer to his team and plans.
On the contrary, the financial and sporting heads at the club instead believe that Busquets’s departure would be the ideal outcome in this scenario, as it allows Barcelona to cut off a major salary from the wage bill. Moreover, there exists a possibility that Busquets may just end up reuniting with former Barca teammate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami according to reports, although the Argentine’s camp has denied that anything beyond verbal talks has been finalized thus far.
While updates regarding the transfer of Busquets have been relatively scarce as of yet, potentially due to the ongoing hype and attention towards the World Cup, it is expected that more transfer progressions even aside from the ones concerning Busquets will pick up pace following the conclusion of the International tournament.
