Napoli considering move for 28-year-old Barcelona defender – report

FC Barcelona are fully aware that the maximum amount that they are able to spend on their various summer targets during the transfer window will be heavily dependent on the funds that the Catalan club is able to generate from the sale of various players.

At the moment, there are several players within the squad of FC Barcelona beyond those such as French winger Ousmane Dembele and Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie that the Catalan club continues to look for a way out.

Namely, players such as French central defender Clement Lenglet and American fullback Sergino Dest are both players that Barcelona are in a hurry of sorts to offload in order to reinvest the funds generated from their respective transfers towards new arrivals.

In the case of the Frenchman, as per Spanish outlet SPORT, the 28-year-old Barcelona defender has reportedly attracted the interest of Italian giants and recent Serie A champions Napoli.

According to the report, the club from Naples is currently in the market to find a central defender to pursue in light of the departure of their own star South Korean defender, Kim Min-Jae, to German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich this summer.

Moreover, the Italian club has also seemingly lost out on Austrian defender Kevin Danso to Ligue 1 outfit Lens as well. This continuity of setbacks has pushed Napoli to now consider the Barcelona defender a strong candidate as well on the back of a solid season on loan at English side Tottenham Hotspur last season.

The Frenchman’s own desire was to continue on a permanent deal with Spurs, but the valuation of €15 million that Barcelona had set is a price tag that the London-based club was not willing to meet and the differences between parties continue to exist.

On the other hand, a side that was willing to pay €15 million to Barcelona for Clement Lenglet was Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr, but Lenglet remains reluctant to the idea of going to the Middle East and playing non-European football for the next several years.

Napoli could turn out to be a strong option for the French Barcelona defender, as they present a strong and competitive side that will also be simultaneously competing within the UEFA Champions League in the 2023/2024 season, which could prove to be a great attraction for the 28-year-old.
