One of the signings of FC Barcelona made this summer, Ilkay Gundogan, has landed in Barcelona. Since his arrival, the German has already spoken to the media, in which he highlighted his association with the Catalan club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, when landing in Barcelona, Gundogan mentioned that he has been a Barcelona fan since he was a child. The player commented “It’s a dream to be at Barça. I remember when I was a child and watched Rijkaard’s and Pep’s Barça. I am a fan of Barça, I have always closely followed them every season, and I am very happy and proud to be part of this team”.
Frank Rijkaard oversaw Barcelona at one of the most decisive points in the club’s history. During his five years on the Barcelona bench, the team won its second UEFA Champions League title in history. The former coach also won two La Liga titles in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, with Ronaldinho leading the Barcelona attack.
Gundogan also shared his excitement at playing with one surprising Barcelona player. He was asked about the players that he would be the most excited to play with at Barcelona. Answering this, Gundogan mentioned Robert Lewandowski, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, and Pedri as the three players he cannot wait to play with.
Gundogan has already shared a pitch with Lewandowski when they both were playing at Borussia Dortmund. He is also a regular teammate of Ter-Stegen with the German national team. However, German has not had any particular association with Pedri till now.
This is going to change in the coming seasons as Gundogan and Pedri are expected to regularly feature in Xavi’s midfield. Both these players are among the best in their positions, and Barcelona fans would be hoping to see an exceptional partnership develop between these two players.
