FC Barcelona lost several forwards in the last summer transfer window. Ousmane Dembele joined PSG, Ez Abde joined Real Betis, while Ansu Fati has also left the club for a loan stint in the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, only one forward was added by the Catalans, Joao Felix, who will be playing for Barcelona this season on a loan from Atletico Madrid.

Despite not enjoying the best of form in the last few seasons, the Portuguese international has already shown enough quality to have great expectations from Barcelona fans this season.

Incorporation in the new team and best position

One glimpse of his quality was seen last night, as he scored a vintage goal for the Portuguese national side in their match against Luxembourg. Felix came on in the 60th minute and scored a wonderful goal in the 88th minute to receive praise from his national team manager, Roberto Martinez.

The forward himself spoke to the Spanish outlet, SPORT, after the match, where he assessed his first few days at Camp Nou. Speaking of his own condition, the player commented:

“I feel good, confident. Physically as well, despite not having had many minutes lately. I’m ready to arrive in Barcelona and start strong. I want to work to help the team.”

Felix was also asked about his best position on the pitch, to which he responded:

“I feel comfortable starting from the left wing. I’ve been playing there for some time now, and I think that’s where Xavi likes to place me the most.”

Barcelona fans and objectives for the season

The Portuguese international is coming from a hard few weeks at Atletico Madrid, and another topic that he touched upon in this media talk was about his incorporation into his new team:

“The group has welcomed me very well. The team is young, so I feel very comfortable. There’s a very good group here that is eager to win.”

The forward also expressed a desire to play in front of Barcelona fans as soon as possible:

“I’m really looking forward to playing in Montjuïc in front of our supporters. It’s a shame it’s not at the Camp Nou. We hope to have a good game and take all three points.”

While he has not played a home game at Barcelona yet, he has still been surprised with the way that Barcelona fans have welcomed him to the club. Speculating on this aspect, the forward commented: “Surprised. I’ve always said I wanted to play there, and maybe that’s why they love me so much.”

Lastly, as several Barcelona players have expressed recently, Felix also selected the UEFA Champions League as the title that he wants to win with Barcelona this season:

“Of course, the Champions League is a real goal. All the titles we’ll compete for are objectives, but we’re taking it step by step and with calmness.”
