New Barcelona sports director prioritizes not selling star Brazilian this summer

With the transfer window approaching only in a couple of days, one of the main objectives for Barcelona in the next months is to generate some much-needed funds by selling fringe players. Raphinha is one such player that the club is considering for sale, but his departure could be somewhat complicated.

Raphinha joined the Catalan club last summer after leaving the Premier League side Leeds United. His time at Camp Nou has been quite mixed, as he showed some signs of quality but has remained inconsistent throughout the season.

As the player still retains significant value in the Premier League, the Catalan club has been considering selling him to an English club. However, Raphinha is not particularly keen for a move away from Barcelona and wants to remain and grow at the club going forward.

The latest reports from SPORT in this regard show that the player’s current agent and the potential new sports director of the club, Deco, also want the Brazilian to remain at the club for now. Deco has been meeting with Alemany to plan the next season’s squad, and being the player’s agent; he is also the best-placed individual to know the interest present in the player from different clubs.

Although Deco knows that his sale can bring much-needed funds to the club, he believes Raphinha should stay at the club for longer, as he has the skills and attitude required to succeed at the club. He also knows that the player is not keen on moving away from the club in the upcoming transfer window.

Still, the club is keeping the option of selling Raphinha open this window if other transfers do not materialize and the club requires urgent funds. Chelsea and Newcastle are reportedly interested in the player, and Deco believes he can convince the player to leave if it becomes necessary for the Brazilian to leave the club this summer.
