FC Barcelona target and current striker for Brasileiro Série A side Athletico Paranaense, Vitor Roque, took the world of football by storm after the South American Under 20 Championship. A key part of that fairytale Brazil U-20 side that went all the way to win the tournament, he has attracted quite the interest from top European clubs since.
Now, as the summer window fast approaches, Xavi’s reported demands of a forward comes to light. Roque possesses an elite level of quality that would ideally be very welcome at FC Barcelona, yet the demands of the Brasileirão club remain persistent on enabling them to cash in as much as possible on their attacking Prodigy.
Roque has been quite evidently on FC Barcelona’s radar for quite some time now but their pursuit of the 18-year-old striker has hit an obstacle as it appears that several powerful Premier League clubs are also interested in securing the Brazilian’s signature.
While the Catalan giants had identified Roque as a priority target for the upcoming summer, Chelsea and Arsenal have emerged as front-runners in the race for the promising talent. However, it is now reported that Newcastle United have made a bold move, presenting a proposal that has the potential to surpass those of their English rivals according to Mundo Deportivo.
This heavily restricts Barcelona as they are already within the constraints of Financial Fair Play and a potential move for the Brazilian International seems unlikely as things currently stand. Despite those hurdles, the Catalans could somehow still pull off this transfer if they are able to convince Roque to join their ranks, and have reportedly been working on a project that could prove alluring to the young striker.
Roque’s current club, Athletico Paranaense, is also aware of the growing interest in the young striker, and it is believed that they will consider the best economic proposal to ensure his departure to European football. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona can overcome the considerable competition from the Premier League to secure the services of this highly coveted talent.
