FC Barcelona had acquired a plethora of varying profiles and talents during the 2022 summer transfer window. Some have impressed more so than others, and Andreas Christensen has arguably performed the best on a consistent basis.
The Barcelona defender continues to flourish:
The former Chelsea defender was a key part of the defensive duo for the Blues that parted ways with the English club and joined the two La Liga giants of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Andreas Christensen would end up signing for La Blaugrana, while Antonio Rudiger would go on to sign with Los Blancos.
The Dane has achieved a solid perception amongst the sporting staff as well as the fans themselves. His performances and reliability have made him part of Xavi’s preferred back four alongside the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde. The defensive quartet, paired with the ever-so-formidable last line of defense in Marc Andre Ter Stegen, has been instrumental in Barcelona’s strong run in La Liga Santander this season.
However, as the repercussions of not being in compliance with financial fair play continue to pile up, so must the responding consequences of how to rectify past issues. The sales of key players become a must of sorts, and with the reported interest of Newcastle United in Andreas Christensen, doubts over Dane’s future with Barcelona begin to flourish.
Christensen prefers to stay at Barcelona:
While the player makes it clear to his environment that he wishes to stay, the English club has also showcased themselves to be convincing as well as economically very well off. Their potential financial offer could triumph over whatever Barcelona could hope to offer as of right now. Moreover, the possible arrival of Inigo Martinez on a free next season would automatically have added more quality to an already stacked presence of quality central defenders.
As of right now, however, Barcelona and Xavi remain inclined on counting on Christensen and his qualities. He remains a starter in the manager’s plans and his performances show no signs of that changing anytime soon. His character is appreciated around the club both on and off the field as well. However, should the need arise, the departure of key players at some point may become an unwanted inevitability.
