For the most part of the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona were very closely linked with the Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams. The operation to sign him remained in the headlines of the transfer news related to the Blaugrana club, but this move ultimately did not happen as the Spaniard decided to stay at his current club.

Still, the soap opera remained in action till the very end of the summer transfer window. But just as it had become obvious that Nico would not be joining the Catalans, there was a match between the Blaugranes and Athletic Club at Montjuic, which brought Nico Williams to the home of FC Barcelona, although in different colors than the Cules had been expecting.

At the start of that game, the Spaniard faced some whistles from the Blaugrana fans, as they showed their displeasure on him not joining their club in the summer. However, these whistles subsided as the game went on.

Now, as SPORT has reported, the winger appeared in an interview and gave his opinion on these whistles. He admitted that this hostile response from the Cules surprised him, but he played down the importance of these whistles:

“It surprised me, I won’t lie. When you go to an away stadium, it’s normal to get booed. This time, though, it was personal. But it’s no big deal; I think it’s also fun as long as there are no insults. Getting booed is part of the essence of football, and I handle it pretty well.”

The Basque forward also recounted the time of the last summer when he had to make an important decision about his future:

“They’ve been tough moments when you stop to think about many scenarios, and it’s difficult, but I have an incredible family and friends who support me. I want to believe this isn’t going to happen to me every summer.”

There is no doubt that the player had to go through a difficult period last summer because of the uncertain nature of his future. But his links with Barcelona have not entirely died down, and we may once again see him linked closely with the Blaugranes in the next summer transfer window.
